Armor HUll Vs Standard Hull Plating

Going to be incredibly difficult to explain. So I took this from another forum.

---Armour Plating vs Hull plating---


Armour Penetration:

Strike cannons = 5
Strike missiles = 15
Strike Nova missiles = 35
Escort cannons = 15
Escort missiles = 25
Line cannons = 35
Line missiles = 35

Referring to the following patch-update notes & thus working out the total damage reduction my Jotunn would do in the different set-up's, giving me the equivalent of XX Hull Points:

Advanced Jotunn:

45 Armour Value
5,291 Hull Points (level 10 Emergency Procedures)

Level 10 Armour Plating = 7 Armour Value
Level 10 Hull Plating = 700 Hull Points.

5 ARMOUR Level 10:

35 Armour + 45 Armour = 80 Armour Value.

Strike: 75% Damage Reduction = 5,291/ 0.25 (1-0.75 =0.25) = 21,164 Hull Points the equivalent of.
Escort: 65% Damage Reduction = 5,291 /0.35 (1-0.65 = 0.35) = 15,117 Hull Points the equivalent of.
Line: 45% Damage Reduction = 5,291 /0.55 = 9,620 Hull Points the equivalent of.

(I.e. 80 Armour Value minus 5 Armour Penetration = 75% damage reduction for strikes shooting at me)

At a 75% reduction, a strike will do only 25% of it's normal damage. Therefore, it'll need to shoot you 4 times more to chew down that 5291hp. Each HP is worth the equivalent of 4. So, you want to use the remaining damage (the 25%). The the math is then:

5,291 / (100% - 25%) = 21164

Simplified, this is:
5,291 / 25% = 21164

Which is completely in line with the common sense 4x damage needed at 25% (5291*4 = 21164)

28 Armour + 45 Armour = 73 Armour Value.
5,291 + 700 HP = 5,991 HP.

Strike: 68% Damage Reduction = 5,991 / 0.32= 18,721 Hull Points the equivalent of.
Escort: 58% Damage Reduction = 5,991/ 0.42 =14,264 Hull Points the equivalent of.
Line: 38% Damage Reduction = 5,991/ 0.62 = 9,662 Hull Points the equivalent of.

3 Armour Level 10, 2 Hull Plate Level 10

21 Armour + 45 Armour = 66 Armour Value.
5,291 + 1400 HP = 6,691 HP.

Strike: 61% Damage Reduction = 6,691 / 0.39 = 17,156 Hull Points the equivalent of.
Escort: 51% Damage Reduction = 6,691 / 0.49 =13,655 Hull Points the equivalent of.
Line: 31% Damage Reduction = 6,691 / 0.69 = 9,697 Hull Points the equivalent of.

14 Armour + 45 Armour = 59 Armour Value.
5,291 + 2100 HP = 7,391 HP.

Strike: 54% Damage Reduction = 7,391 / 0.46 = 16,067 Hull Points the equivalent of.
Escort: 44% Damage Reduction = 7,391 / 0.56 =13,198 Hull Points the equivalent of.
Line: 24% Damage Reduction = 7,391 / 0.76 = 9,725 Hull Points the equivalent of.

7 Armour + 45 Armour = 52 Armour Value.
5,291 + 2800 HP = 8,091 HP.

Strike: 47% Damage Reduction = 8,091 / 0.53= 15,266 Hull Points the equivalent of.
Escort: 37% Damage Reduction = 8,091 / 0.63 =12,842 Hull Points the equivalent of.
Line: 17% Damage Reduction = 8,091 / 0.83 = 9,748 Hull Points the equivalent of.

5 Hull Plates Level 10

0 Armour + 45 Armour = 45 Armour Value.
5,291 + 3500 HP = 8,791 HP.

Strike: 40% Damage Reduction = 8,791 / 0.6 = 14,651 Hull Points the equivalent of.
Escort: 30% Damage Reduction = 8,791 / 0.7 =12,558 Hull Points the equivalent of.
Line: 10% Damage Reduction = 8,791 / 0.9 = 9,767 Hull Points the equivalent of.

Haven't found a simpler explanation. Will be looking into it.
